PLAY THERAPY FOR CHILDRENWhat is the Smartsandbox?

For children with special educational needs
The Smartsandbox can be an effective tool for preventing emotional tension in children and holds great potential for their development.
Teacher-centered approach
We take into account that during the sessions, teachers need to focus on the children, so the control of the Smartsandbox is made easiest with a tablet or smartphone. Our Mini and Standard models are equipped with a display and buttons for selecting games.

Interactive functionality
The uniqueness of the Smartsandbox lies in the projected, colorful, lifelike image, generated by the built-in computer with the help of a depth sensor and projector, bringing it to life on the sand. The Smartsandbox comes with 26 built-in educational and entertaining programs, and it is also capable of projecting any custom image or video material.
Versatile use
The Smartsandbox can serve various purposes, including helping children with visual comprehension, projecting unconscious processes, increasing energy levels, enhancing cognitive and mental processes, stimulating imagination, and fostering empathy.

DIAGNOSTICS AND THERAPY BY PLAYFor Smartsandbox therapy

Subconscious Processes
The Smartsandbox can reflect various subconscious processes, including fear, internal conflicts, and help in overcoming them through the coordination of both hemispheres.
Behavior Development
The use of the Smartsandbox helps reduce psychological indicators such as aggression and retardation while increasing energy levels. It enhances efficiency and optimizes the energy balance of children with special needs.
Communication Development
With Smartsandbox, you can enhance practical communication skills using both verbal and nonverbal tools. It encourages children to be more active, focused, and fosters empathy.
Cognitive and Mental Processes
Among the games of the Smartsandbox, there is a module specifically designed for cognitive and mental processes called "Colors and Shapes." This module aims to develop perception (shapes, colors, holistic perception), memory, attention, thinking, imagination, and spatial perception.
Creative development
The Smartsandbox can also be used in STEAM education, which also supports Art, as some of its programs were created directly for the joy of creation, with its use helping imagination and symbolic representations, developing both visualization, fine motor skills and perspective. Due to these properties, it is also successfully used in the field of rehabilitation.
The Magic Wall combines the importance of exercise with the unique experience of interactive games that children can play either alone or in groups. Magic Wall offers three games for one price, with which children can actively relax while developing their fine motor skills.

Developer Games for Autistic Children

In the AURA center located in Tomsk, Russia, children on the autism spectrum receive treatment. Among other tools, they also use our Special Smartsandbox model during therapy sessions.

The therapeutic program includes 8 individual sessions for each child, held twice a week, as well as additional small-group sessions to facilitate socialization among the children. With the guidance of qualified teachers and psychologists, the children learn to focus, develop fine motor skills, enhance their cognitive abilities, improve communication skills, and further develop sensory and visual perception. They also learn to manage their emotions. Depending on each child’s age and condition, individual programs are tailored for them. Thanks to the wide range of games available on the Smartsandbox, the sessions can be adapted to different ages and circumstances.

We work with special children, so when they see the sandbox, they all react differently. It usually takes quite some time for them to get used to it. There are children who take some time at first to approach the sandbox, but later, you can’t get them out of the classroom. They would play for a very long time.

73 children with musculoskeletal and other disorders participated in group sessions with the Smartsandbox. In 90% of the children, we observed an increase in the level of motor activity, and in 75% of them, we noticed an improvement in movement coordination.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Developmental Games

Jaroslav, 10 years old

Jaroslav’s cognitive functions are not impaired, but he struggles with behavioral issues, so a significant part of his therapy focuses on improving behavior, concentration, and patience.

During the sessions, the boy engages in fine motor activities and learns to remember short rhymes. Together with his teacher, they build various objects, engage in imaginative play, and explore different activities. The instructor ensures that Jaroslav stays focused on the tasks throughout the session and follows instructions without getting distracted.

Denis, 10 years old

It took Denis a little while to get used to the sandbox. At first, he tried to put the sand in his mouth or ran away from it. He didn’t know what to do. After about 4 hours, he finally became interested in the sand, started to show curiosity, and tried modeling with it. He enjoys finding small treasures hidden in the sandbox, and among the games, his favorites are „Seasons” and „Day and Night.”

In the video, Denis is playing the „Air Balloons” mode. He tries to remember the colors (popping the balloons of the correct color following the instructions). He attempts to use both hands and coordinate his movements (waits for the right-colored balloon and tries to hit it). According to his parents and teachers, this positive dynamic in Denis’s development is evident.

THERAPEUTIC SESSIONS FOR THE ELDERLY

International experiences

  • Elderly Care
  • Social rehabilitation

Visitors often come to the institute to see their family members, and during this time, the children can play with the Smartsandbox. The game has had a positive effect on the frequency of visits. The institute frequently organizes programs for local kindergarten children as well. They entertain the elderly residents with poems and, of course, they don’t miss the opportunity to play with the Smartsandbox.

It is encouraging that some bedridden patients already feel better just by watching the children play with the sandbox; you can see the joy on their faces. Students from nearby schools often stop by the center on their way home to play with the interactive sandbox and then play Shogi (Japanese chess) with the residents. The Smartsandbox attracts children to the center and plays an important role in bringing different generations together.

Seventy-three children suffering from various musculoskeletal and other central and peripheral nervous system disorders participated in interactive group sessions with the Smartsandbox. More than 60% of these children had cerebral palsy.

Results: Motor activity levels increased in 90% of the children, and 75% showed improvement in their motor coordination. Additionally, the search activity mechanism was activated among the participants. The playful conduct of the classes further stimulated the children’s motor activity, providing a favorable foundation for the voluntary development of higher mental functions.
