In the AURA center located in Tomsk, Russia, children on the autism spectrum receive treatment. Among other tools, they also use our Special Smartsandbox model during therapy sessions.
The therapeutic program includes 8 individual sessions for each child, held twice a week, as well as additional small-group sessions to facilitate socialization among the children. With the guidance of qualified teachers and psychologists, the children learn to focus, develop fine motor skills, enhance their cognitive abilities, improve communication skills, and further develop sensory and visual perception. They also learn to manage their emotions. Depending on each child’s age and condition, individual programs are tailored for them. Thanks to the wide range of games available on the Smartsandbox, the sessions can be adapted to different ages and circumstances.
Jaroslav, 10 years old
Jaroslav’s cognitive functions are not impaired, but he struggles with behavioral issues, so a significant part of his therapy focuses on improving behavior, concentration, and patience.
During the sessions, the boy engages in fine motor activities and learns to remember short rhymes. Together with his teacher, they build various objects, engage in imaginative play, and explore different activities. The instructor ensures that Jaroslav stays focused on the tasks throughout the session and follows instructions without getting distracted.
Denis, 10 years old
It took Denis a little while to get used to the sandbox. At first, he tried to put the sand in his mouth or ran away from it. He didn’t know what to do. After about 4 hours, he finally became interested in the sand, started to show curiosity, and tried modeling with it. He enjoys finding small treasures hidden in the sandbox, and among the games, his favorites are „Seasons” and „Day and Night.”
In the video, Denis is playing the „Air Balloons” mode. He tries to remember the colors (popping the balloons of the correct color following the instructions). He attempts to use both hands and coordinate his movements (waits for the right-colored balloon and tries to hit it). According to his parents and teachers, this positive dynamic in Denis’s development is evident.
Visitors often come to the institute to see their family members, and during this time, the children can play with the Smartsandbox. The game has had a positive effect on the frequency of visits. The institute frequently organizes programs for local kindergarten children as well. They entertain the elderly residents with poems and, of course, they don’t miss the opportunity to play with the Smartsandbox.
It is encouraging that some bedridden patients already feel better just by watching the children play with the sandbox; you can see the joy on their faces. Students from nearby schools often stop by the center on their way home to play with the interactive sandbox and then play Shogi (Japanese chess) with the residents. The Smartsandbox attracts children to the center and plays an important role in bringing different generations together.
Yunoki Elderly Care Center
Japan

Seventy-three children suffering from various musculoskeletal and other central and peripheral nervous system disorders participated in interactive group sessions with the Smartsandbox. More than 60% of these children had cerebral palsy.
Results: Motor activity levels increased in 90% of the children, and 75% showed improvement in their motor coordination. Additionally, the search activity mechanism was activated among the participants. The playful conduct of the classes further stimulated the children’s motor activity, providing a favorable foundation for the voluntary development of higher mental functions.
